Smolyaninovite is an oxidation product of nickel-cobalt arsenides. Associated minerals include erythrite, pharmacolite and quartz (HOM).

Localities

Bou Azzer mining district, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco. Smolyaninovite is widely distributed as an oxidation product of skutterudite, safflorite and rammelsbergite. The only locality mentioned in the paper summarised in this article is Bou Azzer (AM 42.307-308).

At the type locality, the Khovu-Aksy Ni-Co deposit, Chedi-Kholsky District, Tuva, Russia, smolyaninovite is associated with erythrite and heterogenite (Mindat photo).
