Localities

At the type locality, Marutoku Quarry, Shodoshima, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, uedaite-(Ce) was found in granite intruding into the Ryoke metamorphic belt. Both granite and metamorphic rocks have been widely covered by volcanoclastic sediments. The uedaite-(Ce) is a manganese-rich mineral in the allanite group that was recognised with allanite-(Ce), monazite-(Ce), zircon and thorite in a sample of heavy mineral separates. The short, prismatic crystals are less than 1 mm in length, translucent to opaque, black to dark brown in colour with a grey streak and vitreous lustre (AM 93.11.1944-1945).
