Localities
At the type locality, the Carlin Gold mine, Elko, Lynn Mining District, Eureka County, Nevada, USA,
weissbergite occurs as irregular, broken or fractured grains, 0.5 mm in maximum dimension. It is opaque,
steel-grey in thick plates, and with a bright metallic lustre on fresh surfaces. It displays several cleavages: one
perfect, two excellent and at least one, good
(AM 63.720-724).
Weissbergite occurs in late-stage hydrothermal veins that
brecciate silicified
dolomitic carbonate rocks. The assemblage appears to fill open space
between breccia fragments and to have been formed during the boiling
stage at the end of the hydrothermal episode. Associated minerals include
stibnite and quartz
(HOM).
