Localities

At the type locality, Placer deposit, Northern Pekul'ney River, Pekul'ney Range, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russia, ferronickelplatinum was found in the heavy fraction of alluvial deposits associated with ultramafics from the ophiolite belt of the region. It occurs in intergrowths of platinum-group minerals which occur as grains ranging in size from 0.2-4.5 mm. Ferronickelplatinum occurs as a minor constituent, associated with rutheniridosmine, isoferroplatinum, tetraferroplatinum, laurite, irarsite, cooperite, sperrylite, hollingworthite, chromite, olivine and cherepanovite (AM 69.1190-1191, Mindat).
