Localities

At the Upper Miass River, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia, cherepanovite is associated with isoferroplatinum, rhodium-bearing irarsite, hongshiite, sperrylite and tulameenite (HOM).

At the type locality, Placer deposit, Northern Pekul'ney River, Pekul'ney Range, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russia, cherepanovite is associated with intergrown (platinum, ruthenium, iridium, osmium) solid solutions, rutheniridosmine, laurite, irarsite, cooperite and unnamed RhNiAs. The cherepanovite occurs as individual grains (up to 20 microns) or their aggregates (up to 100 microns) included in ferronickelplatinum or among aggregates of cooperite, in alluvial deposits derived from ultrabasic rocks of the ophiolitic zone (AM 71.1544). Other associated minerals include isoferroplatinum, tetraferroplatinum, sperrylite, hollingworthite, chromite and olivine (HOM).

At the Rai-Iz Ophiolite Massif, Tyumen Oblast, Russia, cherepanovite is associated with laurite, erlichmanite, cuproiridsite, kashinite, rhodian pentlandite, irarsite, chromite and olivine (HOM).
