pentlandite supergroup, probably forms a solid solution series
with torryweiserite,
rhodium-bearing mineral

Environments
Ferrotorryweiserite is a new mineral, approved in 2021.
Localities
At the type locality, the River Ko placer deposit, Sisim Placer Zone, Lysanskiy dunite-peridotite-gabbro complex,
Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, ferrotorryweiserite occurs as small grains (up to 20 µm in size) among droplet-like
inclusions (up to 50 μm across) of platinum group minerals, in
association with oberthürite- or
rhodium- bearing pentlandite,
laurite, and a platinum -
palladium - iron alloy (likely
isoferroplatinum and
iron-palladium-enriched
platinum), hosted by placer grains of
osmium-iridium alloy (up to 0.5 mm in
size) in the deposit. The ferrotorryweiserite is opaque, and grey to brownish grey in reflected light.
Ferrotorryweiserite and the associated platinum group minerals
crystallised from microvolumes of residual melt at late stages of crystallisation of grains of
osmium- and iridium- dominant alloys
occurred in lode zones of chromitites
(MDPI Minerals 11.12.1420).
