Hydrothermal environments

Giessenite is of hydrothermal origin, with other sulphides. Associated minerals include galena, pyrite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite, tennantite, seligmannite, geocronite, quartz and dolomite (HOM).

Localities

At the type locality, Turtschi, Giessen, Binn, Goms, Valais, Switzerland, giessenite occurs as fine needles in dolostone, associated with dolomite, galena, geocronite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, quartz, seligmannite, sphalerite and tennantite subgroup minerals (AM 50 264, Mindat).
