Harmunite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2012.

Localities

At the type locality, Jebel Harmun, Quds Governorate, West Bank, Palestine, srebrodolskite, magnesioferrite and harmunite together form black porous aggregates in the central part of pebbles of a pseudo-conglomerate. Larnite, fluorellestadite, ye’elimite, fluormayenite, gehlenite and ternesite are the main associated minerals. Minor and accessory minerals are magnesioferrite, srebrodolskite-brownmillerite, Si-bearing perovskite and baryte. Vorlanite, nabimusaite, shulamitite, vapnikite and the potentially new mineral CaCu2S2, are noted rarely. Also present around black ore minerals were the sulphates calciolangbeinite, aphthitalite and thénardite (AM 99.5.965-975).
