At Seal Lake, Canada, joaquinite occurs in gneiss and alkali syenite, associated with aegirine, barylite, eudidymite and neptunite (HOM).

At the Ilimaussaq alkaline massif, south Greenland, joaquinite occurs in nepheline syenite pegmatites (AM52.1762).

At the type locality, the Dallas Gem mine, San Benito county, California, USA, joaquinite occurs in a natrolite vein cutting a glaucophane schist inclusion in a serpentinite body, associated with orthojoaquinite-(Ce), benitoite, neptunite and natrolite (HOM, AM 52.1762).
