Hydrated sulphate, ettringite group
Crystal System: Hexagonal
Specific gravity: 1.95 measured
Hardness: 2½
Colour: Bright yellow, greenish yellow to greenish orange, pink
Environments

Volcanic igneous environments
Fumeroles

Jouravskite occurs rarely in the oxidised portions of manganese deposits; an aluminium-rich variety is formed by the action of volcanic fumaroles (HOM).

Localities

At the type locality, the Tachgagalt Mine, Tansifte Caïdat, Agdz Cercle, Zagora Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco, jouravskite occurs as greenish-yellow to greenish-orange spots 1 to 5 mm across in a dark mass of manganese minerals. The individual grains are several tenths of a millimeter in diameter and rarely show crystal faces (Mindat).
Associated minerals include manganite, calcite, marokite, gaudefroyite, henritermierite, despujolsite and baryte (HOM).
