Karpovite was approved in 2013, but to date (April 2023) it has been reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the First scoria cone, Northern Breakthrough, Great Fissure eruption, Tolbachik volcano, Kamchatka Krai, Russia, karpovite was found in a fumarole as bundles of white, needle-like crystals associated with shcherbinaite, pauflerite, bobjonesite, markhininite, evdokimovite and microcrystalline magnesium, aluminium, iron and sodium sulphates (MM 78.1699-1709).
