Environments
Markhininite was approved in 2012 but to date (March 2023) it has been reported only from the type locality.
Localities
At the type locality, the First scoria cone, Northern Breakthrough, Great Fissure eruption, Tolbachik volcano, Kamchatka Krai,
Russia, markhininite was found as white pseudohexagonal plates associated with
shcherbinaite, pauflerite,
bobjonesite, karpovite,
evdokimovite and microcrystalline magnesium, aluminium, iron and sodium sulphates
(MM 78.1687-1698).
