Environments
Möhnite is a relatively new mineral, approved 2015 and to date (March 2023) reported only from the type locality.
Localities
At the type locality, Pabellón de Pica, Chanabaya, Iquique Province, Tarapacá, Chile, möhnite occurs as random
aggregates and clusters to 1 mm, and crusts consisting of imperfect bipyramidal, spindle-shaped
crystals. It is a secondary mineral at the contact between the
weathering zone of a bird guano deposit and an underlying
chalcopyrite-bearing gabbro.
Associated minerals include salammoniac,
halite, joanneumite,
natroxalate, nitratine and
chanabayaite
(HOM).
