Napoliite is a new mineral, approved in 2022 and to date (October 2023) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, Vesuvius fumaroles, Mount Vesuvius, Somma-Vesuvius Complex, Naples, Campania, Italy, napoliite occurs as well-shaped lamellar crystals up to 0.25 x 0.25 x 0.01 mm3 typically forming clusters up to 0.4 x 0.4 mm2 on the surface of volcanic scoria formed subsequent to the 1944 eruption. Associated minerals include matlockite, manuelarossiite, hephaistosite, cotunnite, challacolloite, cerussite, calcioaravaipaite, atacamite, artroeite and anglesite (MM 87.711-718).
