Environments
Panichiite was approved in 2008 and to date (September 2024) it has been unambiguously identified only from
the type locality
Localities
At the type locality, La Fossa crater, Vulcano Island, Lipari, Eolie Islands (Aeolian Islands), Metropolitan City of
Messina, Sicily, Italy, panichiite was found on a pyroclastic
breccia collected at the rim of an active medium-temperature (about
250°C) intracrater fumarole. It forms aggregates of colourless octahedral crystals up to 0.2 mm in length, and is
associated with alunite,
anhydrite, bismuthinite,
godovikovite,
demicheleite-(Br),
demicheleite-(Cl),
adranosite and an ammomium bismuth chloride
(CM 47.2.367-372).
