At the type locality, the Gabe Gottes mine, Sankt Jakob vein, Neuenberg, Ste Marie-aux-Mines, Colmar-Ribeauvillé, Haut-Rhin, Grand Est, France, sainfeldite is a post-mine low-temperature reaction product of carbonate gangue with solutions derived from arsenic. Associated minerals include picropharmacolite, pharmacolite, ferrarisite, rauenthalite, fluckite, phaunouxite, calcite and löllingite (HOM).

At Bou Azzer, Morocco, sainfeldite is associated with irhtemite (HOM).
