Valence: NaCu2+2(N3C2H2)1-2(N3-H3)2Cl3.4H2O
Organic compound. One of the few minerals to contain the triazolate anion
(C2H2N3)1-. It also contains the ammine complex, which is a metal in
complex with N3-H3. As of September 2023 there were five known ammine complex bearing minerals,
triazolite,
chanabayaite, joanneumite,
ammineite and shilovite
(Mindat).
Crystal System: Orthorhombic
Specific gravity: 2.028 calculated
Hardness: 2

Environments
Triazolite was approved in 2017, but to date (July 2025) it has been reported only from the type locality.
Localities
At the type locality, Pabellón de Pica, Chanabaya, Iquique Province, Tarapacá, Chile, triazolite is found in
a guano deposit. Associated minerals include
salammoniac,
halite, dittmarite,
joanneumite, chanabayaite,
nitratine, natroxalate and
möhnite. Triazolite occurs as deep blue prismatic crystals up to 0.1
mm × 0.15 mm × 0.75 mm and their radial aggregates up to 1.5 mm across
(MM 82.4.1007–1014).
