At the type locality, the Kurumsak V Deposit, Aksumbe, Turkistan Region, Kazakhstan, vanalite occurs encrusting joints and cavities in weathered shale. Associated minerals include steigerite, hewettite, delvauxite, satpaevite, gypsum, halloysite, montmorillonite and other clay minerals (HOM).
