Wrightite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2016 and to date (June 2026) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the second scoria cone, Northern Breakthrough, Great Fissure eruption, Tolbachik Volcanic field, Milkovsky District, Kamchatka Krai, Russia, wrightite occurs as sublimates on basaltic scoria near a volcanic fumarole vent at a temperature of 500 to 6000°C. Associated minerals include sylvite, ponomarevite, piypite, dolerophanite, euchlorine, lammerite, johillerite, urusovite, , filatovite, hatertite, hematite, ozerovaite and tenorite (HOM).
