Localities

At the type locality, Brattnevet Peninsula, Larsemann Hills, Prydz Bay, Ingrid Christensen Coast, Princess Elizabeth Land, Eastern Antarctica, Antarctica, chopinite is found as four inclusions isolated in a fluorapatite segregation in a quartz mass in granulite facies paragneiss. Grains are mostly anhedral and up to 0.6 mm in size. Minerals present in the chopinite-bearing specimen include wagnerite, xenotime-(Y), stornesite-(Y), phosphorous-bearing K-feldspar and plagioclase, titanium-rich biotite, sillimanite, orthopyroxene, sapphirine, hercynite and corundum (EJM 19.229-245).

At the Graves Nunataks 95209 meteorite, Graves Nunataks meteorites, Wisconsin Range, Transantarctic Mountains, Eastern Antarctica, Antarctica, chopinite was found in the transitional acapulcoite meteorite affected by shock metamorphism. Associated minerals include sarcopside, chladniite - johnsomervilleite and farringtonite (HOM).
