Placer deposits

Ferhodsite occurs in grains of osmium - iridium - rubidium alloy formed from fractionated iron - nickel - copper melt enriched in the platinum group elements. It is probably the product of metasomatic replacement of magmatic minerals during serpentinisation of ultramafic rocks.
Associated minerals include cooperite, cuproiridsite, bowieite, kashinite, laurite and erlichmanite; ferhodsite is commonly mantled and corroded by chengdeite (HOM).

Localities

At the type locality, the Konder alkaline-ultrabasic massif, Ayan-Maya district, Khabarovsk Krai, Russia, ferhodsite occurs as isometric or platy, triangular and corroded grains located along the periphery of isoferroplatinum grains. Commonly, ferhodsite is mantled and corroded by chengdeite.
Associated minerals include opal, kashinite, isoferroplatinum, cuproiridsite, cooperite, chengdeite and bowieite (Mindat).
The ferhodsite is found in gold - platinum group element bearing alluvial placer deposits (HOM).

At the Seyba river placers, Sisim Placer Zone, Lysanskiy dunite-peridotite-gabbro complex, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, ferhodsite occurs in gold - platinum group element bearing alluvial placer deposits (HOM).

At Nizhnii Tagil, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, ferhodsite occurs in mineral separates from dunite (HOM).
