Hydrothermal environments

Hocartite is of relatively high-temperature origin, typically in hydrothermal tin-bearing deposits. Associated minerals include cassiterite, cylindrite, franckeite, suredaite, stannite, canfieldite, tetrahedrite, pyrargyrite, silver, sphalerite, wurtzite, siderite and fluorite (HOM).

Localities

At the type locality, the Chocaya mine, Chocaya-Animas, Sud Chichas Province, Potosí, Bolivia, hocartite occurs at the tin mines in grains less than a millimetre in size, as inclusions in sphalerite and wurtzite, and in oriented intergrowths with stannite (AM 54.573).
