At the type locality, Knichte section, Lölling mining district, Hüttenberger Erzberg, Hüttenberg, Sankt Veit
an der Glan District, Carinthia, Austria, kahlerite occurs as a
secondary mineral in the oxidised zone of the
uraninite-bearing iron
deposit, forming tabular lemon-yellow crystals to 2 mm in size. Associated minerals include
scorodite, symplesite,
pitticite and löllingite
(Mindat).

At Southwick Cliffs, near Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, UK, kahlerite is associated with
lavendulan, zeunerite,
metazeunerite,
malachite, cornubite,
mixite, tyrolite,
