Pegmatites

Mangangordonite occurs as a very rare secondary mineral in complex zoned granite pegmatites (Webmin).

Localities

There are two co-type localities, the Dunton Gem Quarry, Newry, Oxford county, Maine, USA, and the Foote Lithium Co. mine, Kings Mountain Mining District, Cleveland county, North Carolina, USA.

At the Dunton Gem Quarry, Newry, Oxford county, Maine, USA, mangangordonite occurs as bladed crystals and divergent aggegates up to 1 mm long in vugs in pegmatite (AM 76.2022-2023). Associated minerals include tourmaline, siderite, muscovite and quartz (HOM}.

At the Foote Lithium Co. mine, Kings Mountain Mining District, Cleveland county, North Carolina, USA, mangangordonite occurs as nearly equant to bladed crystals up to 2 mm in vugs in spodumene-microcline-quartz pegmatite (AM 76.2022-2023). Associated minerals include jahnsite, beraunite, strunzite, strengite, spodumene, quartz, muscovite and fluorapatite (HOM}.
