Prosperite is a rare secondary mineral.

At the type locality, the Tsumeb Mine, Oshikoto Region, Namibia, prosperite has been found in partly altered sulphide ore from a
dolostone - hosted hydrothermal polymetallic ore deposit, associated with tennantite, chalcocite, mercurian silver, cuprite, cuprian adamite, cuprian austinite, conichalcite, stranskiite, lavendulan, köttigite, tsumcorite, koritnigite and o’danielite (HOM, AM 65.208).
