Trigonite is a rare mineral found only at the type locality, Långban, Filipstad, Värmland, Sweden, where it occurs in a metamorphosed iron-manganese orebody, associated with native lead, dixenite, hausmannite, finnemanite, rouseite, dolomite and baryte.
