Vargite is a new mineral, approved in 2020 and to date (May 2025) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Långban Mine, Långban Ore District, Filipstad, Värmland County, Sweden, vargite occurs as spherical crystal aggregates up to 0.5 mm across, consisting of hundreds of small individual lath-shaped crystals, elongated and with ridge-like terminations. The size of the individual crystals is on average 0.20 × 0.02 × 0.01 mm3. Vargite occurs in the marble-hosted iron-manganese oxide deposit, associated with hausmannite, rhodochrosite, baryte, calcite, serpentine subgroup minerals, galena, hedyphane, phlogopite and yarrowite (Mindat).
