Fumeroles

Vergasovaite is a rare sublimation product in fumeroles. Although it was approved in 1998, to date (June 2024) it has been reported only from the Tolbachik Volcano; it may transform into cupromolybdite (AM 109.3.471–481).

Localities

At the type locality, the Treschina fumarole, Second scoria cone, Northern Breakthrough, Great Fissure eruption, Tolbachik Volcanic field, Milkovsky District, Kamchatka Krai, Russia, vergasovaite occurs on encrustations of sulphates in fumaroles. Associated minerals are chalcocyanite, dolerophanite, euchlorine, fedotovite, tenorite, copper-bearing anglesite and native gold (AM 85.264-265).
