Localities

At the type locality, the Ivigtut mine, Arsuk Fjord, Sermersooq, Greenland, stenonite occurs in small grains or crystals up to 4 x 1 cm, mainly in the contact zone between siderite-cryolite ore and masses rich in fluorite. It is closely associated with jarlite, which may replace it; also associated with siderite, cryolite, fluorite, weberite, jørgensenite, thomsenolite, gearksutite, pachnolite, prosopite, topaz, hydrokenoralstonite, muscovite, baryte, quartz, pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and galena (AM 48.1178, HOM, Mindat).
