Meteorites

Stolperite is found as inclusions in khatyrkite, or accompanying icosahedrite and/or hollisterite and khatyrkite; it is surrounded by forsterite, spinel and glass. Crystals are to 3 μm in size (Mindat).

Localities

At the type locality, the Khatyrka meteorite, Iomrautvaam massif, Anadyrsky District, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russia, three new alloy minerals hollisterite, kryachkoite and stolperite were found in 2016. Stolperite occurs within khatyrkite, or along with icosahedrite and/or hollisterite and khatyrkite (AM 102.3.690-693).
The meteorite is a carbonaceous chondrite, rich in aluminium. More associated minerals include native aluminium, chromite, native copper, corundum, forsterite, glass, hercynite, native iron, magnetite, naquite, spinel, suessite, taenite and xifengite (Mindat).
