Hydrothermal environments

Sunshuite is a new mineral, approved in 2025 and to date (October 2026) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, Chaganbulagen Ag-Pb-Zn deposit, Jiawula Ag-polymetallic ore field, New Barag Right Banner, Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia, China, sunshuite was discovered in the epithermal ore field. It occurs as anhedral grains, 5 to 20 μm in size, in association with pyrrhotite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, native bismuth, bismuthinite, quartz, calcite, chlorite and sericite.
The Fe in sunshuite is divalent (Fe2+), and its association with pyrrhotite and native bismuth suggests that sunshuite has the potential to serve as an indicator of a reducing hydrothermal environment (AM 111.10.1665-1674).
