Environments
Although tikhonenkovite was approved as long ago as 1964, to date (August 2022) it has been reported only from
the type locality.
Localities
At the type locality, the Karasug REE-Sr-Ba-Fe-fluorite deposit, Tannu-Ola Range, Tuva, Russia, tikhonenkovite
occurs as small crystals, up to 5 mm across in the oxidation zone of
siderite-rich ore. It is a
secondary mineral, occurring in fissures and druses in
limonite-hydrohematite ores,
associated with quartz, gearksutite,
karasugite,
fluorite, celestine,
strontianite and baryte
(AM 49.1774-1775, HOM).
