Localities
There are two co-type localities, the Pittsburg-Liberty Mine, New York Hill, Masonic Mining District, Bodie Hills,
Mono County, California, USA and the North Star Mine, Mammoth, Tintic Mining District, Juab County, Utah, USA.
The Pittsburg-Liberty Mine, New York Hill, Masonic Mining District, Bodie Hills, Mono County, California, USA, is a
former gold mine that exploited a volcanogenic fault-breccia deposit
emplaced in granodiorite. Bodieite has been found on
several specimens collected from the lower dump; it occurs in vugs in quartz
with embedded crystals of goldfieldite,
bismuthinite and
famatinite–luzonite. Other
closely associated minerals include baryte,
mixite and richelsdorfite.
A 30 x 20 x 8 cm3 specimen yielded the best crystals of the species; besides bodieite, this
specimen has yielded the secondary minerals
alunite, antlerite,
bariopharmacosiderite,
bismutite, cannonite,
chalcophyllite,
clinoclase, cornwallite,
dussertite, juabite,
mojaveite, olivenite,
pharmacosiderite,
rooseveltite and scorodite
(CM 56.763-772).

At the North Star Mine, Mammoth, Tintic Mining District, Juab County, Utah, USA, bodieite was first
recognised as a potentially new species in 2011 on a specimen that had been collected from a small isolated ore
dump about 0.2 km west of the North Star mine but not directly associated with it. The ore zone exploited
polymetallic vein deposits emplaced in contact-metamorphosed
dolostone. The principle ore minerals were generally
galena, cerussite and
enargite and the prominent gangue
minerals were quartz and baryte.
Pararaisaite (new in 2018) is from a dump directly associated with
the North Star mine. Bodieite is a secondary mineral
that occurs in vugs in a quartz -
baryte matrix and is associated with
mixite, pyrite and
bismuthinite
(CM 56.763-772).
