Formula: PtBiTe
Telluride,
cobaltite group,
platinum- and bismuth-
mineral. Maslovite originally was assigned to the ullmannite subgroup,
but further studies indicate that it probably belongs to the pyrite subgroup
(AM 74.1171).
Crystal System: Isometric
Specific gravity: 11.62 calculated
Hardness: 4½ to 5
Colour: Steel-grey
Common impurities: Sb
Environments
Igneous environments
Hydrothermal environments
Maslovite occurs in galena-rich portions of massive
cubanite-chalcopyrite and
mooihoekite ores. Associated minerals include
altaite, sobolevskite,
moncheite, michenerite,
hessite, froodite,
paolovite, tatyanaite,
sperrylite,
atokite–rustenburgite,
galena, chalcopyrite,
cubanite and mooihoekite
(HOM).
Localities
At the type locality, the Oktyabrsky mine, Talnakh Cu-Ni Deposit, Noril'sk, Putoran Plateau, Taimyr Peninsula,
Taymyrskiy Autonomous Okrug, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, maslovite occurs in
galena-rich portions of massive
cubanite-chalcopyrite and
mooihoekite ores or host rocks near the contact. The maslovite occurs
as elongated, sometimes rounded grains with maximum dimensions 100-120 microns in diameter. It is usually present in the
centre of complex polymineralic intergrowths of altaite,
tellurium-bearing sobolevskite,
moncheite, michenerite,
platinum-bearing michenerite,
hessite, froodite and
sperrylite
(AM 65.406-407).
