Hydrothermal environments

Nickelskutterudite is an arsenic-bearing mineral which occurs in moderate temperature hydrothermal veins associated with arsenopyrite, silver, bismuth, calcite, siderite, baryte and quartz (HOM).

Localities

At Johanngeorgenstadt, Erzgebirgskreis, Saxony, Germany, nickelskutterudite occurred, together with skutterudite, in the bismuth - cobalt - nickel ore veins. Very fine crystals are known from the Frisch Glück mine. Associated species include rammelsbergite, safflorite, native bismuth, pitchblende, silver ores, quartz and dolomite (MinRec 55.5.614).

At Ait Ahmane, Bou Azzer, Morocco, nickelskutterudite occurs on nickeline associated with clinosafflorite (MinRec 38.5.385).

At Ightem, Bou Azzer, Morocco, nickelskutterudite occurs in a dolomitic carbonate vein with nickeline (MinRec 38.5.385).
