Chukotkaite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2019 and to date (February 2024) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Levyi Vulvyveem river valley, Amguema river basin, Iultinsky District, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russia, chukotkaite was found in a single rock sample containing a rich sulphide-sulphosalt assemblage. The chukotkaite forms anhedral grains up to 0.4 x 0.5 mm intergrown with pyrrhotite, sphalerite, galena, stannite, quartz, and manganese - iron - bearing clinochlore. Other associated minerals include arsenopyrite, benavidesite, diaphorite, jamesonite, owyheeite and uchucchacuaite, cassiterite and fluorapatite.
Chukotkaite is lead-grey, opaque, and has metallic lustre and a grey streak (CM 58.5.587-596).
